Final Year Project + First IEEE paper at SoCPaR in China and Second IEEE paper at SSIAI in USA

Well, thought to blog about my final year project,  first and second IEEE research papers. I presented the first in China last year. It was an awesome experience.

The mission of intelligent vehicles is to assist the driver in decision making. The researchers have paid attention on developing various driver assistance systems in order to assure the road safety. Most of the driver assistance systems do not provide the functionality to remove weather effects and do not produce accurate results for vanishing point estimation and pedestrian tracking in poor weather conditions. The main aim of this project is to develop and evaluate a Vision based Driver Assistance System (Safe Drive) which will help the driver by providing a clear view of the road when the weather is bad. This process is called as “De-weathering”. The Safe Drive system is based on two modules. First module focuses on removing weather effects from a degraded image. Second module focuses on detection of the vanishing point for structured and unstructured roads. The Safe Drive system has been tested with many degraded images. The research results prove the accuracy of the Safe Drive system. Furthermore, the author has proved that the accuracy of the vanishing point estimation can be improved by integrating it with the image de-weathering.

The articles related to the projects are available at [1] and [2].

This is the review paper of my research.

A hybrid approach for a vision based driver assistance system with de-weathering

The aim of this paper is to prove that the accuracy of the driver assistance systems can be improved when it is integrated with image de-weathering. Various image enhancement methods and vanishing point estimation methods are analysed in order to find the best approach for the proposed system.
